Hello all,
Just a little story to share today.
Today I was at a teaching on the 7 Point Mind Training (Lojong) from Khen Rinpoche Geshe Jangchup Choeden and he was going over a verse that states, "Do not be swayed by external circumstances." When explaining this verse, he said that we shouldn't let any of our circumstances shake our practice of training our mind. Right when he said the word "shake," an earthquake that seemed to last longer than one minute shook the ground! Khen Rinpoche wasn't even phased by it and in fact, he started teaching again and the ground was still shaking! What a great example of the verse. As for myself, I was shaken from my practice for a bit! I have a long way to go...

Yes Blueberry, everything was fine. It was a very smooth rolling earthquake, as if you were on a ship perhaps. The Dharma Center is in Long Beach, California, and the earthquake was a 7.3 in Baja California in Mexico. Maybe 200 miles away? I'm not sure.
Yes, a 7.3 on the samsaric scale.

Man, seeing this topic again... That really is one of those legendary moments which cement your feet firmly on the path to liberation. I wish I could have been there... Do you realize your Dharma Center was probably one of the few people in a 700 mile radius to continue exactly what they were doing before the quake and after?

Hmm I dunno,.. I live not incredibly far from that temple, about 200 miles I think. I like never react to Earthquakes except in a childlike delight, I run outside to see if the road is making waves. lol

I do the same thing lol. That's exactly my point, they didn't run around or do anything but continue with their talk.
Since I live in Oregon (not many quakes and only weak ones) and don't own any property, I too, run around and have fun when earthquakes happen! Then right afterward I start worrying about the old people, or people caught in a bad spot, heh.
