I just wanted to mention... For good or for ill. This forum seems to have 'evolved'. I can almost tell anyone what Sandy or SNN or Joey or Wai Meng would say on a particular topic. The most important feature of this evolution is that we have all achieved it on our own, across Oceans. With nobody to support some of us except the internet. What does that mean? It means that the internet has completely busted the 'Western Dharma Barrier'. Something that began after WW2 with Tsem Rinpoche and just a few root guru's in Taiwan-America-India-Tibet-Malaysia is being continued after many years, across the Pacific Ocean? Wait... Something must be wrong here. Je Rinpoche's COMIC BOOK has made it's way into my oh-so-American hands. Youtube Videos are how I first made mental contact with His Eminence. A Malaysian? Or is he an American? Let me tell you for as long as I have been aware, His Eminence has been a Malaysian to me, since I cannot jump in a car and make a visit! Do not not take your Rinpoche for granted, shame on you! I have been spoiled into thinking Gelugpa is not active in my area of the planet. Let me take one minute right beside you all and do just 1 google search on my area and let's see if we can dispell my ignorance of Gelugpa monks in America.

Okay right off the bat, 50 miles away from me (or one hour of driving)

Right in Portland, Oregon.

No love for me in Salem, Oregon quite yet. Lets see if I can dig deeper...

all of us have a pattern and that is what makes us predictable and it is also what helps make this board more stable Smiley

Is it that truly that, or might it be that when one is on the Dharma path, all variants of the path lead to the same place? As one gets closer to the "final goal" as I heard someone say, perhaps the life of morality leads one to certain understandings that others walking a similar path recognize.

There are 3 kinds of wisdom:
A man walks into a restaurant a looks at the menu and thinks, "The food here looks so good. The ingredients used are organic and it all sounds perfect."
Then he orders and while he is waiting for his food, he looks around and sees others looking like they are really enjoying their food. The presentation of the food is pleasing and the smells are wonderful, so the man thinks, "Yes. I was right. The food must be wonderful! Just look at how others are enjoying it."
His order is then placed before him and he tastes the foods and then KNOWS that the food is wonderful.

When he read the menu, it was a written truth like a scripture. When he saw others enjoying it, it was what he heard from teachers or others. Yet, it was only when he experienced the truth of the spiritual life did it become his truth.

In ballroom dance, each school claims to be the best, yet each year adherents of different schools win the world championships. That is because Dance is Dance and one wins based on one's own efforts, regardless of who the teacher is...who are, after all, just teaching Dance.
