The latest video of Rinpoche http://youtu.be/dPB6SouHQmE is very well done and is very touching. It shows how compassionate Rinpoche is.
But I hope the budgies and the cockatiels would not be released. To my knowledge these birds that are found at pet shops are home bred or farm bred.
They may not have the survival instinct of their wild cousins. Crows prey on these birds. I had experienced crows swarming over my parrot, Cocoa when I brought her out for morning walk. It happened many times. There were easily 50 of them circling us as we walked. And also there were a couple of times the crows chased after Cocoa during her outdoor flights.

The budgies and the cockatiels can live happily together in a big aviary. Hope they will not be released.

Thank you for your concern. Yes, the budgies are usually home bred or farm bread for the pet industry, which leads to in-breeding, low immunity, general weakness etc. They also do not know how to fend for themselves in the wild, don't know how to search for their own food, how to nest etc.

Therefore your concern is valid and Tsem Rinpoche is equally concerned about the birds wellbeing. So, Rinpoche has consulted with many bird experts here in malaysia, and in conclusion, the birds can all be released but under certain conditions. Ie a supply of food must be available for them, a nearby green area without many crows etc must be available... and so on.

Rinpoche and his assistants are closely following the advice of these  experts to ensure that the birds will come to no harm when they are released. Yes, Rinpoche intends to release them so that they have more space and can lead lives as close to nature as possible. This is something that is consistent in all of Tsem Rinpoche's work with animals
