What do you do when a friend, who doesn't know you very well,.. listens to a lie about you,.. having no way to verify, chooses to believe the lie?

Change your definition of the word friend.

 lol you're right.

I always fool myself once I consider someone a friend,  I stretch the definition of friend to include whatever. It's easier for me to deal with people I never trusted,.. at least then I don't delude myself about what they do.

Should I cut this non-friend person out of my life or let them hang around as long as they like so I can know they are well and not worry about them? Besides being untrustworthy and slightly malicious, they aren't really harmful, and I expect my friendship means something to them, I'd suffer some pain knowing I caused them sadness.

What if this is just a temporary thing? Even I'm just a flimsy thing that changes to fit conditions, and since qualities come and go they can't be called "me". Tomorrow this person might recognize they were fooled by a liar.

P.S. I hate differentiating between friends and enemies, I'd rather treat everyone the same, once a relationship forms everything seems polluted, I have to think what will please this person or shoo away this person.
